Sprint practices – Getting harder and colder

The Jogging Turtles are still running :)

We just came home from our sprint practice tonight and like always we had a lot of fun. The practices are getting more difficult every time, they are longer and more challenging every time, but that is the purpose so we are happy :) The cold is also slowing us down but tonight there were only 4 degrees Celsius *brr*

Tonight we ran:
1 km run to the practice
15 min warmup with the Winter jacks
3x Fartlet 0.08m
3x Walk back
3x 700 m run, slow to faster with a 2 minutes brake

Next Wednesday the Winter jacks are going for to swim in and sea and *brrr* that must be cold!

Still running

Just letting you know that the Jogging Turtles are still running.

On every Wednesday we go to sprint practices and there we run like the wind :)
It is getting a bit cold in Iceland so we have taken out our winter clothes so we can run no matter what!

Our goal is to go outside running at least three times a week and 5km is our standard goal. Hopefully the JTurtles are not going to get the swine flue so the training will not slow down hehehe…

So I will end this by wishing you happy winter runs :)

The Jogging Turtles ran 5k and 10k in the Icelandic Heart Association race today. Before we went there were about 400 people registered to the race but we do not know how many showed up because the weather was rather REFRESHING! :)

The route was difficult, it had a lot of hills, and it was by the sea and the wind was very strong! The strongest 10km racers where 1 minute later to the finish line then they are used to and they thought the clock was wrong heheh :)

The weather page says it was 8 m/s, 7 degrees Celsius but it felt colder and windier when you are running by the sea :)  We also ran in the rain and in the sun,  and it was also hail coming from the skies! Very REFRESHING :)

But we made it! We finished the race!… Lára went 5k and she finished on a good time but her official time has not arrived. Berglind, Erla and Sigrún went 10k and when there was 2km to the finish line we started to get really tired, but we kept our mind focused on finishing no matter what. Finally we came to the finish line under 80 minutes and Sigrún was last to finish the race OF ALL THE PEOPLE in the race hehehehe :)

But we are glad that we went.. because now we can add 10km race to our exercise diaries, and also a 2 km warm up run :)

Update: The Official time has arrived.

Lára 37:20
Erla 1:18:06
Berglind 1:19:39
Sigrún 1:19:44

The weather forecast is ok.. little wind (3m/s) but rather chilly (5 degrees Celsius). It will rain early in the morning but hopefully it will all be over when the race starts.
The race is world wide but over 200 people have already registered here in Iceland and it will be a lot of fun :)

You can read all about this day on the World Heart Federation page

Saucony race 5k and 10.73 morning run

Erlas Silver Price

Erla's Silver Price

Like always we try to participate in “all” the races we hear of and on Wednesday we red about a new race that is called Saucony race. Berglind, Erla and Sigrún registered to the race and at 20:00 on Thursday off we went. The race was in Sigrun’s old neighborhood and we got a moral support from her grandparents who stood on the side line taking pictures of us running :) and Sigrun’s mother (Erla’s grandmother) was on her balcony watching us run :)

The route was not that hard and we ran rather fast in the beginning that took a little energy from Berglind’s muscles and she was hearting a lot but she kept going and got better in the end. Erla was very focused of running fast because there where few people under 19 years of age and Sigrún and Berglind never saw her running in front of them, she was so focused :)

Erla was first to the finish line, then Sigrun and Berglind and when it came to giving prices Erla GOT A SILVER!!! She came second in here age group :) So the Jogging Turtles has gotten their first Silver price!! We are so proud and happy!! :)

Here is our official time

Erla – 00:33:20
Sigrún – 00:35:27
Berglind – 00:35:35

The Powerade practice run

The Powerade practice run

Berglind, Sigrún and Erla want to be able to run 10k in 60 minutes, 5k in 30 minutes and run a half marathon so they got this plan that tells them to run 12km during the weekends for eight weeks among other things. Today we went 10.73 km but our trainer told us that if we would go running the so called Powerade circle we should only run 10k. The route is rather difficult and it is used in a run that is once a month all winter so we wanted to go that route :)

We took it really slow and we ran, walked, stretched and just tried to enjoy the route. The weather was grate no rain, no wind and rather sunny :) and we finished the circle so we are happy and tired :) After the run we went to the hot tub and relaxed :)

Sigrun’s 5k morning run

Ahhh… My last run was on Wednesday and wow I was starting to miss running hehe.. My sceduled run isn’t until tomorrow but I just couldn’t wait! hehehe..

So out I went… My average pace was 6.55 min/km but 11 days ago I ran this route and then my average pace was 7.29 min/km so I am pretty happy with this run :)

I was pushing it really really hard and I was starting to say to myself out loud.. “I can’t do this, I can’t!… Yes you caaan.. you caaaan” hehehe.. but the last 1 km I had to run in pace 6.0 min/km but for me that is FAST! heheheh :)

Now I feel good.. It feels good running :)

Have a grate weekend :)

Sprint practise with the Vetrargosar

Today the Jogging Turtles went to their first sprint practice with the Vetrargosar (e. Winter Jacks). We are going once a month and it is a group of people that meet at the Fitness Center in Laugardalur and we practice together.

What we did today was:
15 min warm up – 2 km
Strech
3×150m Interval training – 3×150m walking back
3×250 Sprint up hill – 3×250 walk back
350m light jogging
Stretch

Now we just wait for the pain to arrive :)

Sigrun’s 3km run tonight

3 km route with speed and heart rate

3 km route with speed and heart rate

I went outside running… pace 07:00 was the goal.
When I had 1 km left the average pace was 07:04 and I had to speed it up…

Up it went

Lap 1: Average Pace 07:02 – Best 05:49
Lap 2: Average Pace 07:00 – Best 06:02
Lap 3: Average Pace 06:53 – Best 05:25

Average pace: 06:59

As you can see I had to speed it up in Lap 3 :)

I found a new view in the Sport Tracks program, and it shows when I am pushing it with my pulse.. I LIKE IT!

Jogging Turtles before the 5k race in Selfoss (see more by clicking the image)

Two hours before the race the Jogging Turtles came to Selfoss!

To spend some time we went window shopping at the stores that had opened but when the time came  we started to get ready for the race by running slow and strech :)

It was a lot of people at the race and most of them ran 10k, but the Jogging Turtles decited to go 5k and Sigrún, Erla and Berglind was going to brake a new personal time record.

The route was easy, no hills, there was no wind, no rain, no sun and the tempature was fine. But for Sigrún and Berglind the race was tough because they pushed it very hard to get their time goal.

All of the Jogging Turtles did well! Time records where broken and we went home with a big smile on our face after the race. The official time has not arrived but we where all under 35 minutes and under pace 07:00 so we are improving a lot :)

Lára was first, then Erla, Sigrún third and Berglind fourth. We will post the time as soon as they will be puplished :)

Next race will after two weeks :)
